Our new project “Short break for adventure” assumes the development and implementation of Adventure Therapy (AT) programs as a form of providing short break services for young people with disabilities and their carers. Adventure Therapy is a tool supporting the process of creating positive change and individual development, based on the use of nature and adventure, including challenges such as trekking, climbing, canoeing or cooperative games. During the project we will develop and test 3 model Adventure Therapy programs and prepare a guidebook for dissemination among other NGO’s. Project participants are 10 Polish NGO representatives – personal assistants and experts, who take part in a weekly training on Adventure Therapy methodology in Spain, develop model programs and test them among 18 young people with disabilities. The project is carried out in partnership with the Spanish non-governmental organization Asociacion Experientia, formed by specialists in the field of mental health and social intervention, which pioneered the introduction of “adventure therapy” and “experience education” in Spain.
